Eyweid cheese dairy on the road to success

The Eyweid cheese dairy - tradition and quality that endure!

The Eyweid cheese dairy relies on combined heat and power plants from LiPRO Energy

What would a hearty snack, breakfast break or a cozy evening meal be without a rich cheese platter? Unthinkable!

But most cheese connoisseurs don’t know this: Things have been getting tighter and tighter economically for cheese dairies for years, as the production of cheese is energy-intensive. It requires both heat for the production processes and cold for storage.

But the Eyweid cheese dairy in Zäziwil is on course for success despite the difficult times.

This is not only due to the particularly delicious and varied cheese recipes from the Eyweid cheese dairy, which it sells worldwide under the name “Jumi” through Jumi AG.

Above all, the new energy concept and the new recipe for success, which the Eyweid cheese dairy has been consistently implementing since 2014 with its newly built cheese dairy, has helped the traditional cheese dairy to reach new heights. Eyweid has succeeded in its upswing despite the fact that many small and large cheese dairies in Switzerland have had to close down in recent years for economic reasons. Until 1999, Swiss cheese dairies had to follow a kind of planned economy of Emmentaler Switzerland in cheese production, says experienced master cheesemaker Urs Glauser.

Due to the fall in demand for Emmentaler and the simultaneous rise in energy costs, the cheese-making trade was simply no longer profitable for many cheese dairies. For the Glauser and Wyss families, however, giving up was not an option. After the liberalization of the Swiss cheese market, as visionaries and experts in their craft, they decided to focus on sustainable energy supply, innovation and product diversity. Master cheesemaker Glauser knows his trade and thanks to his experience and skill, the cheese dairy can now offer almost 30 different types of cheese.

In the area of technology, the mastermind is Technical Manager Andreas Wyss, who has not only made the energy supply of the craft business significantly cheaper with his technical expertise and the right decision to use the combined heat and power plants from LiPRO Energy. With his innovative decision in favour of combined heat and power plants from LiPRO Energy, Andreas Wyss has also sustainably implemented the decarbonization of the energy supply and saved costs in the long term.

The LiPRO HGW300 wood gas plant from LiPRO Energy converts theCO2-neutral energy source wood chips into heat for heating the milk and, with the integrated LiPRO HGM300 combined heat and power plant, also into electricity for cooling the stored cheeses using a very clean wood gas. In this way, the Eyweid cheese dairy can go full throttle in production with affordable energy costs and at the same time slow down climate change a little more. The Eyweid cheese dairy thus ensures that we can all enjoy our cheese.

Andreas Wyss is enthusiastic about the combined heat and power plants from LiPRO Energy GmbH & Co:

“The combined heat and power plants from LiPRO Energy are much more stable and require less maintenance than you would generally expect from a wood gasification system. LiPRO Energy offers excellent support when we have technical queries that we can’t resolve on our own. With LiPRO Energy, we not only have a reliable partner at our side for our energy supply, but above all a technologically mature system for our sustainable energy supply in continuous use.”
